What is kodaihaku?
This is an original type of Kanazawa-haku created by Hakuichi. It is a special, very precious type of metal leaf colored using a unique process which revolutionized the world of metal leaf, which had been limited to the natural colors of metals.
The color of each sheet of kodaihaku leaf varies depending on the conditions in which it was made. While they may appear identical at a glance, each item has a unique sheen. The color also transforms depending on the lighting.
Kanazawa/Hakuichi
The city of Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture accounts for more than 98% of gold leaf production in Japan.
We preserve techniques for making gold leaf passed down since the Edo period. The thickness of the gold leaf is about one ten-thousandth of a millimeter. Supreme craftsmanship and skill are required to beat gold until it is ultra-thin, and apply sheets to the backing material one by one. We leverage our techniques for making gold leaf to create a market for Kanazawa gold leaf crafts, and share them with the world so that people can experience gold leaf firsthand.
